Skillweb launches mobile app for parcel tracking and proof of delivery

Mobile computing specialist Skillweb has launched an affordable proof of delivery solution that can be used on a range of rugged or consumer smartphones. SmartTask POD will provide small and medium sized delivery companies with an advanced and scalable item tracking system to support business growth, while large parcel operators and courier networks can use the app to quickly and effectively expand an existing tracking infrastructure to support peak trading periods or cover remote regions.

SmartTask POD is powered by the Houndit Enterprise tracking solution that is used by some of the largest post and parcel companies in the UK and globally. As a result, the mobile app combines high levels of functionality with a low cost of entry and easy implementation making it accessible to all couriers, carriers and specialist delivery companies. A user simply has to download it to an Android or iPhone device from the relevant app store and subscribe to the SmartTask service to have immediate use of the tracking tool.

An enabled device will display delivery addresses and special information, while the status of a collection or delivery can be updated as successful, failed or a range of alternative outcomes. In addition, SmartTask POD provides an effective means to capturing electronic signatures, with the ability to send a proof of delivery confirmation email immediately after a completed transaction.

Delivery and collection details are automatically created, including precise location, date and time, through the online portal, so office-based personnel can respond to customer queries or produce operational reports for payroll or invoicing. Meanwhile, users can create work orders, import pre-advice data, assign routes and download manifests via any Internet connected device. The solution can be easily integrated into existing paper based systems to extend real-time control over ‘last mile’ delivery or, for smaller delivery firms that do not possess dedicated IT resources, it is simple to implement as a self-contained online system.
