The IT1000 3G camera will help taxi fleet operators increase safety, reduce costs and enhance Duty of Care

Intelligent Telematics has teamed up with Taxiworld, the leading provider of technology systems and services to the UK taxi trade, to provide industry-leading vehicle camera solutions. The agreement follows Transport for London’s (TfL) decision to grant authorisation to Intelligent Telematics’ IT1000 vehicle camera, making it the only approved 3G forward-facing device currently available for public and private hire fleets in London.

Taxiworld selected Intelligent Telematics as its exclusive nationwide partner following a thorough review of the vehicle camera marketplace. The IT1000 demonstrated the highest levels of reliability, functionality and visibility, providing an effective means of monitoring any road collision, near miss or harsh driving event, with immediate proof of what really happened. Footage and supporting vehicle data is transmitted via a secure 3G private network to a web-based interface with live email and SMS alerts, so a triggered event can be viewed within minutes of it occurring.

Taxiworld had previously supplied SD-card vehicle cameras, but recognised the need for a 3G solution amidst increasing demand for real-time visibility and control along with growing concerns over SD-card failure rates. The 3G capability will enable fleet operators to respond quickly to issues and report claims, while their insurers receive first notification of loss to minimise any financial impact. Furthermore, it will ensure that any data is not lost or corrupted as a result of any problems with the SD-card.

Intelligent Telematics will work closely with Taxiworld to develop tailored solutions that meet the precise needs of the public and private hire sector, helping companies to minimise insurance costs, reduce accident rates and streamline operational processes. In particular, new mileage capture functionality will enable taxi operators to set up maintenance alerts to simplify service scheduling and lessen the administrative burden.

Jill Paton, Managing Director of Taxiworld commented: “Taxiworld currently supports more than 15,000 taxis across 722 fleets in London alone, so we believe the IT1000 3G vehicle camera will become an important part of our offering moving forward. In our opinion, it is unrivalled in the marketplace and offers multiple benefits to taxi fleet operators in terms of safety, cost reduction and Duty of Care. We are already seeing strong demand for the solution and targeting 10,000 installations nationwide within the first 12 months.”

Nick Plowman, CTO at Intelligent Telematics said: “This latest agreement is part of our expansion programme, designed to increase our reach across both new market sectors and international regions. We believe that by working with other likeminded, industry-leading companies will ensure we are best-placed to meet the needs of vehicle operators and deliver the highest levels of innovation, reliability and support.”
