KLM Equipment Services (KES) has teamed up with Ctrack to develop and implement an advanced telematics and employee identification solution at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. As a result, the company will now be able to monitor who and when employees are using its fleet of specialist vehicles and equipment including de-icers, power units, baggage towing vehicles, loaders, mobile staircases, catering trucks, belt loaders.

Ctrack was selected following a competitive tender process involving nine leading telematics suppliers including detailed reference visits and user satisfaction studies. KES made the decision based on Ctrack’s ability to create a user-friendly solution that combined the latest technology, cost efficiency and high levels of service delivery.

Ctrack has developed a unique platform that would enable multiple KLM departments and other supplier companies operating at Schipol to sign employees in and out. The solution is able to manage access for 5,000 of 60,000 airport staff cardholders to KES equipment using registration to the identification software and Ctrack tracking units. This will also allow KES to access precise details of how long an employee uses the equipment to support automated invoicing.

In addition, KES will now be able to use a desktop computer, smartphone or tablet to view where specific equipment is located, particularly the Ground Power Units, to help the company maximise the use of available resources. Moving forward, the battery voltage for electric equipment will also be displayed on a dashboard, enabling users to select a charged piece of equipment.

Hilger van Dam, Managing Director of Ctrack Benelux commented: “Our identification software and telematics expertise is enabling companies such as KES to outsource use management per user group without losing the visibility of assets. This has the potential to save many hours of administrative work, while providing the basis for making fleet operations more flexible.”
