HOST 2 Ltd has awarded an eight-year contract to Ecocleen’s South West franchise, AHG Facilities Management Ltd, for the provision of cleaning services at one of the largest worker campus developments in Europe. Under the agreement, worth up to £1.5 million annually, the company will handle all internal cleaning requirements at the specially-designed accommodation that will be used by construction workers at the site of the EDF Energy Hinkley Point C nuclear power station near Bridgwater in Somerset.

The accommodation will be located on two campuses providing total of 1,496 bedrooms and recreational facilities. Ecocleen will initially clean 15 residential blocks for up to 510 workers on the Hinkley Campus, which also includes an amenity building that includes a reception area, restaurant, bars, entertainment rooms/meeting rooms and gym. The cleaning operation will be extended to the Sedgemoor Campus, once complete later this year, which will add a further 986 rooms across 29 blocks.

HOST 2 Ltd is a joint venture of three Somerset companies that have joined forces in order to manage the worker campus accommodation management contract for the Hinkley Point C power station. Moving forward, Host 2 Ltd will benefit from Ecocleen’s consistent approach with true local account management as well as established systems and governance.

“Ecocleen was chosen from several strong candidates due to EDF Energy’s desire to procure services locally,” explains Jim Humphrey, Ecocleen’s Regional Director for the South West. “We were able to tick the boxes for the project’s local agenda, while having the ability to successfully deploy the cleaning operation in just a month. We also possessed the specialist knowledge, advanced cleaning techniques and technological innovation needed by being backed by Ecocleen’s nationwide standards, systems and support.”

Jean-Henri Beukes, Managing Director of Ecocleen commented: “This is an incredible opportunity for Ecocleen. We are now not only experienced to work on such a high-profile nuclear project, but we have also been able to use the knowledge to expand our capabilities within the hospitality sector. This latest contract award further underlines our position as one of the leading and fastest-growing commercial cleaning specialists in the UK.”

Hinkley Point C is the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK, expected to provide low-carbon electricity for around six million homes. However, the project is about more than just power as local support is at the heart of the Hinkley Point C project. It is aiming to deliver many long-term benefits that will stimulate and support Somerset and the South West of England.
